Review :
Boldly confronts the sexual whimsy of the world
In the book The Truth About Sex, Kay Arthur addresses many of the misconceptions the world has about sex, by applying God's lessons on the topic as found in Scripture. Whereas the world would paint sex as something functional, mechanical, and without emotional commitments or responsibilities, Arthur argues, "Sex, in its perfect form, brings the intimacy of not only truly belonging to another but longing for the presence of our beloved. It is hallowed purity, the union of a husband and wife that becomes a holy metaphor of the 'wife' God seeks for His Son, of the oneness He longs to have with his people."

Arthur boldly confronts the sexual whimsy of the world. She asserts that when people say they are merely sowing wild oats, they want to live and let live, and they do not want to judge others because of their sexual preferences, in reality they are distorting God's purpose for sex. Using passages from the Bible to contradict these improper attitudes, Arthur offers discussion...
great read!
purchased for my daughter who is 19. she says she has learned alot and was excited to see how to break down scripture to see what God really says about sex. kay arthur is a gifted teacher.

A Inconvenient Truth
As a single woman, this book has opened my eyes to the film of lies covering them for several years on the topic of sexuality. It hits at the core of the emptiness of cheapened, casual sex and challenges singles to stay pure regardless of stage in life or sexual history. The Scriptural references Arthur provides leave no question of God's view of sexual relationships outside of marriage and also explains God's provisions and sanctions as loving and protective of not only our bodies but psyches, family structure and nations' future. This is an important book for singles and parents whose children will confront the many voices and false teachings in our media and culture. Arthur approaches what many churches today cower away from discussing.

This unique subject provides overtake own prospect, that one has become a fantastic buy for myself personally, The concept arrived safely and also rapidly Invisible Girls: The Truth about Sexual Abuse

The statistics are staggering.

One in four girls will experience sexual abuse by the time she is sixteen, and 48 percent of all rapes involve a young woman under the age of eighteen. It’s not surprising then, that in a society where sexual abuse of young women is rampant, many women never share their stories. They remain hidden and invisible.

In her pioneering work with young survivors through the last thirty years, Dr. Patti Feuereisen has helped teen girls and young women to find their voices, begin healing, and become visible.

In this revised second edition, Dr. Patti’s gentle guidance and the girls’ powerful stories continue to create an encouraging message: Remarkable healing is possible if girls learn to share their stories in their teens and early twenties. With a new introduction, new chapters, and updated resources, this new edition of Invisible Girls has even more to offer girls, young women, and those who care about them.

Review :
Psychologist enthusiastically recommends to parents, teens and colleagues
Within a matter of pages, I realized I'd be enthusiastically recommending this book to colleagues, parents, and teens. Refreshingly free of psychological jargon, it is an easy to digest and realistic portrayal of sexual abuse. More importantly, it is the much needed voice of those who have been there telling us what it's like, how they survived, and what they need to heal and thrive.
The author has been in the trenches with hundreds of girls who have shared their stories of trauma and healing with her. From popular and seemingly confident track stars molested by their coach, to quiet and insecure daughters abused by their fathers and stepfathers, to impoverished and neglected young teens who turn to the streets, Dr. Feuereisen finds common themes among these survivors.
First, the basic premise of her book is that the best way to heal from sexual abuse is to talk about it, and that the best time to talk about it is while you are still young. I agree wholeheartedly, though...
For everyone who cares about them.
As the sub-title says this book is for; '...teen girls, young women, and everyone who care about them.' My family and I fall into the category of; '...and everyone who care about them.' I knew all too well the statistics of sexual abuse after a long career in law enforcement. The book is succinct, informative, and powerful. It gives the reader a much greater insight into the depth of trauma experienced by the survivors of sexual abuse. In my second career, I, with my family, and the support of many others who cared, became directly involved in helping a survivor put an end to the abuse and weather the aftershocks. . This book helped to answer questions we had that may have been too much for the survivor, and give us greater understanding of the emotional roller-coaster the survivor was, is, and will be riding. The book should be required reading for all law enforcement agents who deal with survivors, and everyone else in a profession that may bring him or her into contact with a...
Life Changing Book!
"Invisible Girls" has changed my life. I am a sexual abuse survivor who has had to heal alone for the most part and after reading "Invisible Girls" I know I'm not alone. A lot of the things that I have been through have been addressed in this book and now I am ready to change my life for the better and embark on my road to healing. I would recommend this book to anyone who has ever suffered abuse, or known someone who has. There is help, you are not alone, and you don't have to swallow your hurt and move forward. Dr. Patti is helping us be known in her book, and soon people will have to listen!

An estimated twenty million American men and women are in relationships in which the man has stopped being sexually intimate. Is the problem physical, emotional, or psychological—or are these guys simply bored with their partners?

To find answers, bestselling author and relationship expert Dr. Bob Berkowitz and his wife, Susan Yager-Berkowitz, began an unprecedented survey of more than four thousand men and women in this situation, gathering data and following up with hundreds of interviews with selected respondents. Why Men Stop Having Sex provides a unique window into the sexless man's mind—so that men and women can understand this important issue and begin to address the problems that have inhibited intimacy, and ultimately solve them.

Review :
Objective, Well-Researched 4000 Person Survey of Married Men Who Lose Sexual Interest in Their Wives
I'm flabberghasted reading the other reviews of this book, so confused that I just retrieved it, to peruse it again before writing this review. I sense that other reviewers are processing the facts of the book through the lens of their own personal lives.

I read this superb book on men losing interest in sex with their wives as a professional consultant, with a keen interest in sex in America. The book is well balanced and not all focused on placing blame on EITHER party, inspite of two totally contradictory reviews of the same book.

The authors do make the accurate point that the lower-libido partner ALWAYS controls sexual frequency in any relationship. In no way does this book exempt wives from contributing to loss of their husband's libido.

First and foremost, the chapters of the book are organized around the results of a 4000 person, gender-balanced survey of men who have withdrawn from sex with their wives, and wives whose husbands don't want sex...
Insightful, helpful, important, and well-written
This is a very important book which handles a sensitive and difficult topic with insight, compassion, and solutions. It is well-researched and carefully written by one of the few true experts in the field. Using a survey to gather information from thousands of respondents gives the book an authenticity and a personal quality that helps the reader understand what real people think about this topic. The advice, suggestions, and remedies offered by the authors take the book beyond a mere analysis of the problem to a prescriptive level of practical and useful solutions.

Best book on the subject yet. Even better than THE SEX STARVED WIFE.
I must say. At first I thought there could be no better work on the subject than The Sex-Starved Wife: What to Do When He's Lost Desire. This book is much more comprehensive, thorough and gender balanced in examining the reasons why male partners either decrease or cease their sexual activity with their significant others. Perhaps this is so because the book is written by a married couple who wanted to be fair to both genders involved. Like THE SEX STARVED WIFE the book wrote that HSDD (hypoactive sexual desire disorder)can be used as a catchall term for little or no sex as a result of many factors both psychological and physiological in origin. So often the medical community has a tendency to assume that the sole reason for this has to do with low testosterone count. In Chapter Eleven "Maybe He's Gay? Asexual?" Berkowitz and Yager-Berkowitz clearly state "if a man's sex drive is low, it may not be due to low...

This type of item gives exceeded the anticipation, this one has developed into a wonderfull buy for myself, The thought came securely as well as rapidly Wild Nights: Conversations with Mykonos about Passionate Love, Extraordinary Sex, and How to Open to God

"Wild Nights cuts through the illusions of modern spirituality into the depth of life before God. Impure, soaked with all bodily liquids, pierced by clear recognition of death, wide opened with the power of love-living as love-in any moment of daily life. If you do not choose to be a hermit, if you want to practice awakening within relationships, in the realm where sex and death are such powerful momentums-you'd better read this book, and not only once."-Rabbi Ohad Ezrahi, author of Paths of Empowerment

Meet Mykonos, both scurrilous madman and the voice of truth. Wild Nights presents David Deida's remarkable account of his days with the unconventional teacher who revealed to him the deeper wisdom of the erotic path to the divine.

From our very first encounter to the "burden of bliss" that is his parting gift, Mykonos challenges our understanding of what makes a spiritual life. Brutally candid, he offers his teaching to anyone ready to listen, with an uncanny ability to see into the hearts and minds of his students better than they can their own.

Charged with provocative scenes of unbridled passion and play, Wild Nights explodes with spiritual insights into our choice to "open as love, or close and suffer"; yogic sexual techniques including circular breathing and expanding feeling beyond the self and into the heart of a lover; and why, for some, full sexual expression is a requirement of spiritual maturation.

For its honest depiction of the spiritual teacher and student relationship-and the questions it demands we ask about our own sexuality-Wild Nights proclaims David Deida a guiding light in the often cloudy realm of sex and spirit.

Review :
shocking! excellent!
this book is one of the best i`ve ever read, and i read my share. but then i deeply respect and admire david deida, and have experienced time after time that even reading his works can open ones heart up and give taste of the deeper realm.

this book has scenes that is quite interesting, to say the least - and it is a great test to "stay open, as love" or suffer from the hearts contraction, fear and aversion.

one of my late inner fascinations is the truth that we will have to accept lifes ambiguities. rarely can one find masters and teachers like ramana maharshi, for instance, which are nothing but saintly purity. krishnamurti is an example of a wise man, strongly illuminated and full of wisdom. then, another time, he is clearly full of prejudgement and aversion. so most people would say "oh, he is so wise and beautiful" (which is true), and other would say "he is an angry and judgemental old man" (which is also true).

this books exposes clearly that...
Nothing but a drunken orgy
I read David Dieda's book "Intimate Communion" and found it to be insightful and transformative - I believe in and experience deep love and sharing he conveys - he hits home on so many points about men and women. I was initially intruiged by the story-like essence of Wild Nights, but I am really disgusted by this book and perceive the "teacher", Mykonos, to be little more than a drunk sex addict who manipulates people at their deepest levels - through sex and the emotions, fulfillment and addictive rush of "love" that one can feel in sex. Although this is supposedly a work of fiction, its focus is on polygamous, sexually loose experiences.

I personally feel let down by this book - this is not about God and love, it is about delusion and the use of group-sex to artificially break down internal barriers - barriers that can be broken down in a truly loving and trusting relationship. In an age of sexual promiscuity (not to mention the rapid rise of sexually transmitted...
Adds colour to the Deida oevre
Deida has written so many guides to emotion and spiritual growth, so it was refreshing here to get a much more colourful sequence of lessons. Though his own experiences with an intensely charismatic teacher, the book is a sequence of extraordinary anecdotes that inspire and entertain as well as teach. While I get a lot out of his other books, especially Finding God through Sex, this is a great companion book.

Better Than I Ever Expected is a warm, witty, and honest book that contends with the challenges and celebrates the delights of older-life sexuality. It asserts that women over sixty are at the top of their game when it comes to enjoying sex.
Joan Price’s woman-to-woman straight talk transcends the self-help style of other books in this field. Yes, there are challenges to sex after menopause and beyond, says Price, but there are also creative solutions. She is on a mission to let women her age and older know that they can, in fact, have the best sex of their lives. Price gets personal and stays positive, combining her own story with candid comments, tips, and sassy tales from sexually seasoned women. She acknowledges the gritty issues that older women confront in their sexual lives, noting that it’s not easy, but it certainly isn’t over.
At age 61, Price is newly engaged to the man she’s been looking for her whole life. Her discovery of how great “well-seasoned” sex can be was the inspiration for this book. Sidebars present candid and friendly sex tips; fitness, exercise, and lifestyle information; and women's erotic vignettes—both real-life experiences and fantasies.

Review :
Encouraging advice, and a great love story, too
If you're trying to decide which of the new "sex over 60" books to buy, definitely choose this one. It is not a step-by-step "how to" book that might offend people, although it does cover every aspect of sexual activity--married, single, solo, gay, straight, young, old, one-night, long-term (50 years and even longer). Instead, the book provides practical, encouraging advice from experts and from ordinary women about the joys of loving relationships, dealing with sexual problems of menopause, loss of interest in sex (or your partner's loss of interest and/or ability), how to approach sex with a new partner, helpful exercises, and even a detailed discussion of sex toys and assistive devices. (I thought these were only for `adventurous' couples, but the book explains how they can make sex possible and more enjoyable for older people).

Plus, this book is also a beautiful love story which could stand on its own, even without all the excellent sex information. The writer...
Sassy Elders!
Dr. Bond of Rebeccasreads highly recommends BETTER THAN I EVER EXPECTED: Straight Talk about Sex after Sixty as a courageous & witty guide for young people on the verge of discovering the paradise of sexuality, for older couples who have been brain-washed into thinking sex is only for the young, & for those happy lovers of all ages who wish to believe that the bliss of lovemaking will continue as long as they live.

After Joan Price agreed to write BETTER THAN I EVER EXPECTED, she circulated the following: "Wanted: Interviews with sassy, sexy women, age 60+, who are willing to share feelings and experiences openly and anonymously in a candid, woman-to-woman book" (p. 6). To her surprise, women responded abundantly, & were hungry to share their experiences & reveal the most intimate details of their bodies, fantasies, & relationships. Price uses quotes from these women's responses to illustrate her findings throughout.

BETTER THAN I EVER EXPECTED is an original...
Like Sex Itself: Fascinating, Fun, and Educational
Better Than I Ever Expected: Straight Talk About Sex After Sixty by Joan Price lives up to its title! Like sex itself, it is fascinating, fun, and educational: a how-to book for staying sexually active and enjoying it as we, men and women, mature. With stimulating anecdotes and clinical details, it leaves no sexual arena unexplored. It encourages us to move beyond age and sexual stereotypes and better understand ourselves and our bodies. It gives a variety of suggestions on how to surmount dryness, wrinkles, flaccidity, and the like, in order to continue exploring the frontiers of pleasure and intimacy. Wise and very respectful, Joan reminds us "Great sex is what's happening between two souls, two minds, two hearts--not just two bodies." This book is a testimony to love and creativity. EVERYONE will learn from it. It is what a book should be, enriching! I wholeheartedly recommend it.

"You're the Man... Act Like One!"

Look, I know you're not a mind reader, so I'm going to be blunt...

The majority of women like to be fucked. And I mean really fucked.

Yes, the media has lied to you.

Sure, there are some women who want to lie on their backs, look into your eyes, and gently rock back and forth, but most of us want you to channel the power of the Sun through your penis and give us a good, solid pounding. Act like you want it, for God's sake!

In this book, I'm going to lay out exactly what the majority of women want and show you exactly how to give it to them. I've got a section just for you and one for your female partner, so you can feel 100% comfortable letting loose on her vagina in the way she's secretly craving.

Some of the topics we'll cover...

The Alpha Male - It's more than just being an ex-fratboy douchebag, who thinks he's still on the high school football team. I'll clue you in.

Dirty Talk - Trust me, she wants it. If she didn't, she'd fuck a mime. Speaking of, did you know Marcel Marceau was divorced three times? Enough said.

Role Playing - How she really feels about pretending to be the babysitter, a whore, and a student looking for a little "extra credit." I'll take you through her top Alpha Male fantasies...including one so controversial, I can't even mention it here.

The Art of Being Assertive - Sack up and take control! What to do...and what not to do.

Sexual Communication - Both you and your partner have needs and good communication, both verbal and non-verbal, is crucial when it comes to getting them on the table. I'll show you how to communicate "Alpha Male Style." You'll learn what to say...and how to say it.

Now that I've got you all hyped up and extremely aware of the need to please your woman, let's make that happen!

What are you waiting for? Buy the book already!

Review :
Better than most
I got this book and read it and was very happy with it. Most sex advice books suck, they only tell you stuff that anyone who is in a committed relationship with good communication would know, they are written for teens because they are the only ones who would not know that advice. This book on the other hand tells you about what girls want but don't know how to ask for, and tells you how to slowly introduce some new, fun sexual activities to your relationship. The only detraction I can say about this book is it is very simple, now that may sound like a good thing but I would have liked to explore some more of the psychological aspects of the sex described in the book and why we have lost this in our modern relationships because of the ways we are raised, but I like to explore things deeply. Over all though it was a good short read that actually did help my sex life a little. I would place this book right between "sex advice" and "kinky" and I would recommend this book to couples that...

I grew up a dork ..... wish my dad ... or mom had given me this book back when I was in Highschool .... or Jr. High for that reason .... sure would have saved me a bunch of junk along the way !!!!

Couples Guide To Satisfying A Woman's Desires for an Alpha Male Lover
Like me, you were probably just innocently walking along or surfing when this the title of this book reached out and grabbed your curiosity and wouldn't let go. Since the book's title has your undivided attention, just what is the book about? It's a self-help guide/instruction book/sex manual written by a woman, a feminist no less, who obviously knows what she is talking about. How can a San Francisco feminist write a book like this one? As she says, "This is not a relationship advice book. This is a guide to pleasing your woman in bed." It's her experience that one of the reasons "why women like men who are more assertive in the bedroom" is feminism. "How could something that inspires women to be strong and in control be the same reason why she wants her partner to be an alpha male in the bedroom?" These are the questions that the author answers in this fascinating 113-page book. It's impossible to answer most of the questions brought up in this tome in this short review, but the...

Review :
Excellent Resource for Parents
There can be no denying (unless you want to play the role of the ostrich with their head in the sand) that our children are being exposed at earlier and earlier ages to all manner of sexual perversion. The statistics are staggering on the sheer amount of young people viewing sexually explicit material as well as engaging in sex and sexual related activities. What is a parent to do? What are ways parents can get involved in the battle for the hearts and minds of their children? What do we do when our child asks us about some element of sexually intimate information they heard in the back of the bus on the way home from elementary school? Jonathan McKee, in his truly outstanding book More Than Just the Talk: Becoming Your Kids’ Go-To Person about Sex, equips parents with information, practical application, and a needed kick in the pants.

McKee shares some sobering stats in the first part of this book that might take many parents by surprise, especially those...
If talking about sex to your kids FREAKS you out - get this book by Jonathan McKee!
If you just aren't sure how to prepare your kids to have a healthy view of sex in our seemingly sex crazed world, then Jonathan McKee's book is just what you've been waiting for! McKee takes a candid look at the issues our children are facing in their childhoods, and quickly dismantles myths parents may believe, such as thinking their children would never even THINK of words like oral sex or masturbation. Rather, McKee shows, from scripture and research, that we need to have honest conversations with our children from a young age. McKee encourages parents that "parents rarely introduce their kids to temptation while trying to tell them the truth". He's not encouraging parents to download too much information onto their children. But a quick look at the media around us, from t.v. shows to magazines to song lyrics, shows that our kids are being exposed to a sex-crazed world and they need to know how to handle it. Our children need to know that sex is a wonderful gift from God,...

I've been a youth pastor for the past 8 years and I am always looking for resources that make my job, and the jobs of parents, better. Jonathan McKee has been one of my main go-to guys and he has not disappointed with his latest work. In his book, "More Than Just the Talk", he reminds us all that the conversations we have with our children need to be ongoing, fluid, open, inviting and intentional. Jonathan reminds us that if we choose to ignore or neglect these sometimes awkward and difficult conversations that society will step in and take our place with a message that probably won't align with our values and wishes we have for our students. This book is loaded with practical, easy to apply ideas to make these conversations happen as well as some of the pitfalls that society has in its messages today. Take the time with your kids to have these talks, take the time for yourself to read this book! I have already recommended it to all the parents I work with and look...

Review :
The Sex Ed. Book I'll Keep Coming Back To
I am the mother of two boys, ages 11 and 13, and I found this book to be the best ever sex education book. The first and perhaps most impressive aspect of the book is that it not only helps you see your child's sexuality through his/her eyes, it also portrays the parents' point of view in a helpful and sympathetic way.
The second element that makes the book so effective is its down-to-earth humor. The authors review the phases of children's sexual development and parental experiences with many funny real life examples that get you chuckling and relaxing. In fact, my boys heard me laughing as I read one section and came over to ask about it. They read the part I was reading and it lead to a very comfortable discussion.
A third aspect of the book I appreciated is that the authors have really done their research. They are not just giving their opinions, they provide concise research information which adds perspective.
Lastly, the authors are very comprehensive. They...
Fun page turner expertly explores sex conundrums for parents
What a great read! I almost finished it in one sitting. This book is not only well-written, it's also chock full of great advice. I found it much more accessible than Deborah Roffman's Sex and Sensibility. It was as if the author knew me and wrote the book for me -- I want my children to grow up with a good attitude about sex, but even so, I feel a little squeamish about these topics. As a mom of a pre-teen and a toddler, I'm glad there's a book out there like this that isn't exclusively focused on teens, though they're well-covered here too. This one's a keeper. Now I've got a great new shower gift idea!

A must buy!
I read the book and wish I had read it sooner and then I gave it to my 15 year old to read as well.

Much better than A chicken's guide to talking turkey with your kids about sex (preachy at best, as in religious zealots).

I think books are a useful tool to open up lines of communication and purchased this author's book, Everything You Never Wanted Your Kids to Know About Sex with a copy of Dr. Ruth's Sex for Dummies for my older teen. I also read and shared, Human Sexuality by Roger R. Hock.

It is my personal feeling that providing your child with information about thier bodies will help them keep themselves healthy. It does not mean we give them our blessings to do whatever they want nor does it mean we have the right to make choices for them. We do as parents have the responsibilities of educating them.

As I have multiple children and liked her reasonable approach I also purchased Dr. Ruth Talks To Kids for my pre-teen. I also...

Sex in the second half of life
Back in 1975, I read Studs Terkel's Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day an organized set of interviews which focused on "real people," and how their jobs affected their lives. In a similar vein, Naked at Our Age, appropriately subtitled "Talking Out Loud About Senior Sex", also spotlights real people's experiences, feelings, thoughts, and concerns about sex in the latter half of life. For me, Terkel's book highlighted the tension between the way a job could be unsatisfying yet also provide vital self-definition. Price's book elaborates on the multiple physical, social, and emotional tensions arising from expressing one's sexuality as an elder.

Some of her respondents are older people who have worked through the wounds of earlier years and are ready to "get it on." The courage expressed by the women and men who have survived betrayals and violence, and not abandoned the human connection...

(2007 ForeWord Magazine Book of the Year Award: Finalist, Parenting; 2008 NAPPA Honors Award)

Parents of children with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities are accustomed to paying close attention to their child's physical, cognitive, and emotional development. This proactive approach should also include their child's sexual development, which for many parents may not seem as obvious or urgent, especially to those with young children.

Drawing on her unique background as both a sexual educator and mother of a child with Down syndrome, the author blends factual information and practical ideas for teaching children with Down syndrome about their bodies, puberty, and sexuality. This book gives parents the confidence to speak comfortably about these sometimes difficult subjects.

In an easy-to-read, non-clinical style, the book covers relevant issues and concerns for children of all ages, such as:
Labeling & explaining private body parts;

Identifying & expressing emotions;

Respecting personal space;

Teaching self-care & hygiene;

Understanding norms of privacy;

Understanding gender identity;

Showing appropriate levels of affection.

It also covers later issues that affect teenagers and young adults, including:
Anticipating and understanding puberty;

Dealing with periods, bras for girls;

Experiencing erections, wet dreams for boys;

Relating to the opposite sex;

Sharing parental values about sexuality;

Explaining sexual relationships;

Preventing sexual abuse;

Understanding how Down syndrome affects puberty & fertility rates.

Each chapter highlights important points with key messages, teaching activities, parental pauses, and anecdotes, all of which prompt readers to stop and consider concepts or values associated with a particular topic. The final chapter covers the special concerns of parents who are now teaching teenaged or adult children about sexuality for the first time. It concludes with extensive appendices containing invaluable teaching materials and illustrations of body parts and functions.

Wonderful to find information

Thank you for making it so easy for me to get the information I need to be the best parent I can be to my daughter who was born 15 years ago with Down Syndrome. Sometimes it feels like we are in a boat with no oars. When I find books like this that actually give me some insight it makes all the difference in the world. And right here on Amazon, I don't have to go out searching and searching.
This book is very easy to navigate and find the info I need help with. Just another way to approach things helps tremendously.
Thank you

Excellent!
I'm a psychologyst currently working with children and adults with Down Syndrome and other intellectual disabilities, and I was in need of general information about sexuality because this is one of the most common worries for parents, teachers and caretakers. This book is great, not only it offers general information, but tips, strategies and drawings about everything a parent or caretaker should know (teaching adequate behaviors, menstruation, masturbation, relationships, etc.). And I love the idea of "parental pauses", a moment for parents to question themselves about what they think/feel about a certain subject BEFORE trying to teach it to the child, so they can share the information more effectively.

I really recommend this book!

Great for Parents of children/adults with Down syndrome
Excellent book.
Great pointers for parents of little ones with Down syndrome. As a parent of an adult with Down syndrome, I found the book to be excellent in discussing sexuality and body boundries.

With humour and sensitivity, Boys, Girls & Body Science provides no-nonsense answers for children - and parents - with questions about sex. Specifically designed for young readers, Boys, Girls & Body Science walks children through the wonders of their bodies in a direct, easy-to-read manner. The story begins with Nicholas, 7, and Jenny, 5, learning about different types of science in their class - from ecology to the digestive system. Then Meg Hickling, a guest speaker, comes to talk to them about a new type of science. Hickling talks about the "science names" for the children's body parts, about good and bad touches and about making babies. She coaches the children not to be embarrassed or shy about body science: "We are going to make this just like a science lesson, we will learn to think like a scientist and we will learn the scientific names for our private parts," she says.

Hickling is a Registered Nurse who has been teaching sexual education for over 25 years. She is an outstanding educator, and her ability to convey difficult material with sensitivity, gentle humour and warmth distinguishes her as a remarkable teacher and role model. In this latest publication, Hickling brings her award-winning lesson into the homes, schools and libraries of inquisitive children everywhere!

Review :
Great approach, well-written, great book
I took a chance buying this book when no-one had written any reviews about it, but the publisher write-up looked so good I had to give it a try - and I am quite glad I did. In the book, Meg, a nurse, is invited to a classroom to explain about what she calls 'body science' (reproduction). In a most gentle, sensitive, and delicate manner, she teaches the children to think about 'embarrassing' things in the way that a scientist would, then she goes on to teach about those 'embarrassing' subjects. This book is written on a very basic level, big illustrations and only a few paragraphs of text on each page, obviously written for a younger audience. The book perceptively takes into account what the children's responses and reactions may be, which makes the reader feel like they are understood, and makes them feel at ease. My 8 year old daughter understood everything and was not 'grossed out' at all, to her it was all very matter-of-fact, but my 10 year old son groaned a big 'yuck' at...
Perfect book on the facts of life for my 8 year old
This is really an extraordinarily well balanced presentation of the facts of life for an 8 or 9 year old. The characters in the book reacted exactly like my 8 year old when hearing the somewhat embarrassing (for him) facts of life. My son laughed pretty hard as the character in the book said "Yuck!" when hearing how babies are made. This book had tactful but direct illustrations and overall the book is a wonderful aide to any parent who wants to make sure their children understand the basic facts of life.

Perfect Book!
I bought this book for my 10 yr old son. I made sure I read it first then gave it to him to read. We followed with a great discussion. I had researched a lot of other books and now that I have had the book/conversation with my son I am glad I chose this book! I was not ready to discuss masterbating, wet dreams or homosexuality with my child yet and this book DID NOT mention these things. It was simple and straightforward. A perfect Primary Grade Book!

Emotional preparation for the wedding
While these 6 inch thick bridal magazines have ideas on wedding gowns, honeymoon locales, and bridesmaid dresses, this book is wonderful for the emotional changes that will take place as you prepare for your wedding. For me the single most valuable aspect of this book is that it is *validating*- that I'm not the only one who has experienced lows during this "happiest" time in my life. Through the use of other brides' experiences and quotes, this book validates the losses (e.g., place of Dad in your life), the fear of changes (loss of name, loss of single independence), the disappointments (the ring, the proposal, the absence of deceased loved ones), and generally the feeling of being overwhelmed by the giant Wedding Creature that seems to overtake your life. I didn't really get "advice" per se out of this book- mostly just the feeling that I'm not alone and weird if I experience a negative emotion as a I plan and anticipate my wedding. I don't really need advice-...
What an amazing book!
First off, let me cut to the chase: this book has been a true gift! Two months away from my wedding and I was starting to feel miserable. Miserable? Huh? Yes, it's true. You can feel miserable right at "the happiest time of your life". Feeling sure this must mean I didn't really want to get married, I began to panic. Why all the confusion? Fortunately, this book was recommended to me. I think I began to cheer before I finished the intro. I am normal! This book helped me to see that there is so much more involved in getting married than what we see in the magazines. Sheryl Nissinen provides such clear insights into the complex emotions brides feel throughout their engagement and into the first year of marriage. If nothing else, this book allows brides to feel everything and not feel "wrong". Several times my jaw dropped in amazement, "she's in my head!" And several times I had to just sit and cry. I could completely relate to just about...
This book fills a cavernous niche for brides and newlyweds
I went to a bookstore yesterday looking for relief in a book about my post wedding angst. Viola! I'm in my second month of marriage and my husband and I are discovering why they say the first year is the most difficult. We're both definitely going through our own personal growing pains. Sometimes it doesn't feel like the "us" I've known at all. So, upon rapidly purchasing Sheryl's book and reading as much as I could squeeze in last night, I'm at least feeling more assured that these feelings are quite normal.
The word "therapy" has continually popped into my head since he proposed last December 30th. Fortunately, since I've gone through my share of self exploration, I felt I was equipped with enough tools to deal with my new emotions. And I do feel I gave them their due credence. I was told I was the calmest bride many of my guests had ever seen. And I did feel calm, serene even.
However, immediately after the wedding was over, I missed it. I felt it...
